Step back to the world of Vikings with this fun and creative “Viking Eco-Warrior” workshop, perfect for kids aged 9-12 who love crafting and adventure.
In a 2-hour session participants will craft their very own Viking warrior gonk using recycled materials.
In a double-session of 2 hours each, participants will craft their very own Viking warrior gonk using recycled materials.
This hands-on workshop encourages eco-consciousness and creativity, turning everyday items like old socks, fabric scraps, driftwood and cardboard into a unique Viking puppet. The process focuses on individuality and sustainability, making it ideal for tweens eager to express themselves while connecting with others in a relaxed, friendly environment.
Participants will start by creating Viking-inspired accessories, including a sword, shield, and helmet. They’ll stuff the gonk’s body, attach it to a wooden base, and bring it to life with facial features, a beard, and moustache. All parts come together for a fully assembled Viking puppet by the end of the session.
For the two hour session, kids will revisit the process, adding more personal touches and unique elements to their creations.
Single Session Option (2 Hours): Everything from crafting accessories to assembling the gonk is completed in one engaging session.
Participants will explore techniques such as stuffing, gluing, cutting, sculpting pre-made clay horns, leather binding, and shield buffing to create their eco-friendly Viking gonk. Materials include recycled items like driftwood sticks, wool or yarn, iced coffee cup caps, tinfoil, and cardboard, making this a truly sustainable craft.
This workshop not only offers a fun and interactive activity but also fosters mindfulness, patience, and a sense of accomplishment. It’s a fantastic opportunity for kids to create something meaningful while making new friends in a supportive and eco-conscious space.
