What Do Women Want?
The last 50 years have seen the women of Ireland win many important battles. From the right to divorce, to the right to choose, these concessions from the ruling class have not come lightly. Yet, much still needs to be done. While the Ireland that exists today is leagues ahead of what came before, women are still finding that their needs, their wants and their rights play second fiddle to those of men. As the political atmosphere drifts ever rightwards across the west, it becomes increasingly important for the Left to analyse what further needs to be done to advance the interests of women, and defend what has been won. But to do this, we have to first ask, what is it that women want? And how can socialists take up this cause?
