About this event

Join us at 10.30am, Wednesday the 11th May, to come together and discuss issues relating to access to financial products, such as mortgages and insurance, for survivors of childhood cancer. We are aware this group faces many challenges even after they survive their cancer treatment; the Irish Cancer Society’s report “The Right to be Forgotten beyond cancer: Access to financial products and services” casts a light on the difficulties cancer survivors face when trying to access products to secure their financial stability.

This webinar will bring together experts on this topic, as well as the community of young cancer survivors and their families, who are experts by experience. Sharing knowledge, and creating the next steps to ensure equality for young cancer survivors is the key aim of this webinar.

The following speakers will be in attendance:

  • Frances Fitzgerald MEP
  • Stacey Kiely, Childhood Cancer Survivor
  • Rachel Morrogh, Director of Advocacy and External Affairs, Irish Cancer Society

We will be discussing the following topics:

  • The financial difficulties faced by young cancer survivors; securing stability through accessing mortgages and insurance.
  • What is being done internationally to protect young cancer survivors; an overview of “The Right to be Forgotten”.
  • An overview of the results of the Irish Cancer Society’s report on accessing financial products.
  • The supports available when facing financial challenges.

Followed by questions and answers.

Everyone with an interest in childhood, adolescent and young adult cancer is welcome.

We are hosting webinars throughout 2022, to discuss topics important to the community of childhood, adolescent and young adult cancer survivors and their families. We will be bringing together experts and cancer survivors to discuss these topics, and we invite you to take part in the conversation.

The recommendations of the Irish Cancer Society's report on Accessing Financial Products for Cancer Survivors is supported by the Society's Childhood and Adolescent Cancer advisory group: Hand in Hand, Childhood Cancer Foundation Ireland, the Gavin Glynn Foundation, CanCare4Living and CanTeen.
