About Trini Kenny
Trini is an artist whose work focuses on fabric dyeing and wax resist techniques. Trini creates original paintings, drawings, limited edition prints and illustrations that weave together aspects of her life with her passion for nature, animals and the environment. A visit to the Kofa Mata dye pits in Nigeria in 1995 sparked Trini’s lasting passion for fabric dyeing and wax resist techniques which have since become central to her work.

Her work is easily recognisable by the distinctive cracking and bleeding of inks and dyes on fabric and paper. As well as traditional batik methods such as tjanting and stamping, Trini uses many different techniques to create her distinctive pieces. This can involve stencilling, tjanting or screen-printing a pattern. She then protects that pattern with hot wax, dyeing and over dyeing, etching and cracking the wax before submerging the work in a final dye bath. Scraps of waxed patterned paper often become part of her still life collage arrangements.

Trini’s still life arrangements reflect her keen eye for detail. She draws inspiration from the sensibilities of 19thcentury Japanese woodcuts with their flat shapes and intricate patterns. Trini is drawn to the rhythms and tension that can be created by the juxtapositioning of different patterns and surfaces.

Trini has shown locally and nationally, and her work is in many private collections.
