It'll be Christmas week so we are going a bit more raucous than normal with our album choice. It's a classic:
The Strokes - Is This It (2001)
The debut album that launched the New York rock band's career, an album that arrived on a wave on media hype, and made old school rock'n'roll style and songs cool again for a hot minute. Featuring classics 'Last Nite', 'Someday', 'Hard To Explain' and more, Is This It is a modern rock classic. Come hear it in full on the Big Romance's beautiful Toby Hatchett soundsystem.
We will play the album in full, have a little chat about it, and afterwards Niall and Andrea will kick out the chairs with some indie disco vinyl jams, suitable for the Wednesday before Christmas.
The night will also serve as the Nialler9 Discord Christmas party. All welcome.
The hosts of the Nialler9 Podcast (Niall Byrne and Andrea Cleary) in conjunction with The Big Romance present the Listen Closely series of listening parties, a night featuring a focus album from an artist we love on the last Wednesday of the month.
Listen Closely is a chance to appreciate a modern classic album on the Big Romance's warm Toby Hatchett soundsystem with a chat about the record on the night, whether you know it and love it, or if it's brand new to you. We play the album and provide some background context and chat about it too.
Tickets are limited to 40 for this intimate event.
Doors: 7pm.
Album playback and chat from 7.45pm
More Listen Closely events to be announced monthly.
