The Rubbish Room is a one-day, immersive creative experience for children and young people that invites participants to explore their imagination using materials that would otherwise go to waste all part of Cruinniú na nÓg - A day of free creativity for children and young people.
Think of it as art class meets treasure hunt, where every piece of “rubbish” holds endless creative potential. Provided with buckets of discarded items—milk cartons, cereal boxes, fabric scraps, old wires, bottle caps, buttons, bubble wrap, and more—children are invited to build, sculpt, collage, and invent their own creative masterpieces from scratch.
There are no templates, no instructions, no right or wrong—just materials, imagination, and the freedom to make. Children might leave with a homemade toy, a robot, a sculpture, a wild invention, a costume, a rocket ship, or something that doesn’t have a name yet (but should).
All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult*
