From a Small Online Community to a Nationwide Art Movement
The Irish Palette started during the COVID-19 pandemic when artists from different corners of Ireland, participating in the same online art programme, came together via Facebook to support one another. Little did they know that this online community would evolve into a dynamic art collective. Today, with over 40 members, The Irish Palette is a growing force in the Irish art world, fostering creativity and collaboration among its members.
“It all began back during COVID,” says Senga Sharkey, a founding member of The Irish Palette. “We had no idea it would evolve into the movement it is today. It’s incredible to see how much we’ve grown.”
The group’s core philosophy centers around connection, creativity, and mutual support. For the artists involved, The Irish Palette has been a transformative experience, both personally and artistically. Bridgeen Butler, an artist from County Antrim, shares: “It’s a delight to be part of this group. We’re bringing new art to new audiences, and we couldn’t be more excited to showcase our work in Dublin.”
The Inspiration Behind The Irish Palette
The Creative Visionary Program (CVP), developed by Californian artist Nicholas Wilton, has been a key influence in shaping the collective’s approach to art. The program encourages artists to embrace boldness, authenticity, and the pursuit of art that reflects their true selves.
Dublin artist Fran Halpin, who has achieved success in her own practice, was looking to push boundaries. “Joining The Irish Palette is an added bonus. The group is dynamic, and we already have three more exhibitions planned for 2025.”
For artist and filmmaker Gina Fegan, who recently returned to Wicklow, The Irish Palette has been a lifeline. “The CVP principles have brought a fresh, unifying energy to our work. It’s helped me create art that feels more like me.”
A Must-See Event in Dublin’s Cultural Calendar
The exhibition will feature a wide variety of styles and mediums, providing visitors with an eclectic experience. For some members, it’s not only a chance to exhibit but also to meet fellow artists face-to-face for the first time.
“The opportunity to exhibit together allows us to connect in person,” says Leonora Reilly, a visual artist and plein air painter from County Louth, who also organizes the Louth Plein Air Art Festival.
