In this keynote lecture, Ed Maguire, professor of criminology and criminal justice at Arizona State University and visiting professor at the University of South Wales, will reflect on the 2023 Dublin riot and 2024 United Kingdom riots, discuss evidence-based best practices for the policing of protests, and offer recommendations for An Garda Síochána's policies moving forward. Maynooth University criminologists Dr. Ciara Bracken-Roche and Dr. Cian O' Concubhair will respond with commentary and critique related to policing practices and government policy in the Irish context.
