Overhead, the Albatross is an Irish instrumental band that has carved out a distinctive niche in the post-rock and progressive rock genres since their formation in 2010. The band consists of a talented group of musicians who are passionate about creating intricate and emotive soundscapes. Their lineup typically includes guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and occasionally strings, allowing them to explore a rich tapestry of sounds and textures.
The band's music is characterized by its lush melodies, dynamic shifts, and an atmospheric quality that invites listeners on an emotional journey. They skillfully blend various musical influences, drawing from elements of classical music, jazz, and ambient sound, which contributes to their unique sound.
With their 2016 debut album Learning To Growl resonating deeply enough to be nominated for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Album of the Year and named Irish Times’ Album of The Week, and a reputation for powerful and emotional live performances, second album I Leave You This promises to be both a homage to their roots and a daring leap into uncharted territory.
Irish post-rock quartet Overhead, The Albatross are delighted to announce they will release their second album, I Leave You This, on 15th November 2024 via new label home Nice Weather For Airstrikes (Poly-Math, VLMV).
To celebrate the news, the band are sharing an AA-single, featuring colossal and expansive A-side ‘Your Last Breath’ and AA side ‘This Is Like Love’, out now on all good streaming services.
A sprawling piece experimenting with elements of prog, math-rock, electronic influences, and their own already much-loved signature brand of post-rock, ‘Your Last Breath’ subtly bridges the gap between the familiar and the extraordinary within the post-rock genre, as OTA intertwine strings, electronics, and synths with the raw energy of guitars and drums.
