About this event

'Stories Between Us' is an inter-generational public art project that developed a memory box of objects to represent and inspire the telling of stories about Grangegorman and the local Dublin 7 area.

Curated by Janine Davidson, it brings together the National Museum, St Gabriel’s National School, Henrietta St Adult Education (HACE), and the Phibsboro Retirement Group.

Taking the theme of 'Past Times' as the starting point, to encourage both older and younger people to share their stories and create a box of handling objects reflecting their different perspectives. This collaborative project connects groups that have the potential to grow within the Grangegorman community. By sharing experiences the groups have fun, learn from each other and develop meaningful relationships.

Working on a daily basis with different community groups in a variety of contexts gives me the unique opportunity to listen to the rich personal testimony of the people I work with. It is an invaluable insight into understanding inter-generational perceptions of identities in contemporary society.

This seminar will describe the journey of this intergenerational project. The planning and experiences of creating a platform that involves different age groups learning from each other and about each other. The conversations between the older generations sharing local history, storytelling, traditional crafts and the younger people learning to connect with the past.
