About this event

Get together for some crafting and a drink to tap into our pagan roots and celebrate the end of winter and beginning of spring with us in Hugh Lane Gallery's gorgeous café.

Join us to make St. Brigid’s crosses in preparation for St. Brigid’s Day, or Imbolc, which is celebrated on the 1st of February, and marks the beginning of Spring in Ireland.

Workshop facilitator Millie Egan will teach you to make traditional St. Brigid's crosses, while exploring a few variations on the style from around the country. We'll also chat about Brigid and the traditions that have grown up around her- her identity as a Christian saint, as well as her presence as one of the main deities in pre-Christian Ireland. We'll look at the protective role of the crosses, and Brigid's place in Ireland today as a revered female figure.

There will be plenty of traditional materials provided but feel free to bring anything you fancy using- rushes and straw are the usuals, but if you want to include stems of plants from your garden, or anything long, slender and foldable, especially if it's something of significance to you, bring it along and give it a go.

Tickets €12 includes one free drink. No prior experience needed.

Suitable for +18 years only.
