About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

As journalist, author and presenter Sinead Gleeson will tell her audience at The Dingle Literary Festival, writing feels as natural as breathing to her, and yet despite being one of Ireland’s most well known writers it’s only now that Gleeson has published her first novel.

Hagstone tells the story of Nell, an artist who lives on a remote island off Ireland where she finds inspiration for her work from the strange murmurings that seem to emanate from the island itself. Alongside Nell, the island is also home to the mysterious Inions, a commune of women who have travelled there from all over the world, considering it a place of refuge and safety, of solace in nature. When the Inions summon Nell with the intention of commissioning a piece of art - she finally discovers things about the community, and about herself, that challenge everything she thought she knew.

Described as beautifully written, prescient and eerily haunting, Sinéad Gleeson’s fiction debut takes in the darker side of human nature and the mysteries of faith and the natural world. Join Gleeson at The Dingle Literary Festival to hear her speak about Hagstone, how the process differed from her other projects and of course those projects themselves, including her experience of writing This Woman’s Work: Essays on Music a collection of essays she co edited with Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and the award winning Constellations, a selection of essays.
