About this event

Danish-born Brighton resident Sara Oschlag has quietly established herself as one of the UK’s premier jazz vocalists. She is featured vocalist with the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, and has recently appeared with Pete Long’s Echoes of Ellington Big Band and Arnie Somogyi’s Mingus repertoire band, Scenes in The City. She duetted with US trumpet/vocal star Benny Benack III as part of the Brighton Jazz Festival and has performed at leading jazz festivals and venues, including Ronnie Scott’s, Love Supreme Festival, Jazz at The Lincoln Center and Pizza Express on Dean Street. Sara has sung at jazz festivals across Europe and has built up a YouTube presence of over 12 million views.

The album YEAH! is Sara’s most fully realised, personal statement yet and showcases some of her original lyrics. It was recorded at the renowned studio Echo Zoo in Eastbourne & features some of the UK’s finest musicians. The core band consists of Mark Edwards (Bobby Wellins, Katie Melua) on piano, jupiter-8, hammond organ & glockenspiel, Arnie Somogyi (The Mingus Big Band, Amy Winehouse) on double/electric bass and Darren Beckett (Aaron Parks, Lauren Hill on drums and percussion. Special guests featuring on a few tracks each are Alan Barnes (Freddie Hubbard, Björk) on clarinet, alto and baritone saxophone and Jason Henson (Louis Stewart, Joe Lee wilson) on guitar.

“Bookended by the magnificent compositions of Mingus, this 10-track album from vocalist Sara Oschlag is a tour de force that pays homage to the greats while asserting Oschlag's singular voice.”
