In this workshop, we'll run through how to get started with ren'py, a very streamlined and versatile game engine for making visual novels. Visual novels are simple games that are typically light on gameplay and interactivity, focused on taking a player through a narrative. Though they still use the interactivity in novel ways, and have a unique storytelling mode. Some notable Visual Novels are Doki Doki Literature Club, Fate Stay Night and Butterfly Soup 1 & 2.

With ren'py you can make a game that includes text, images and sound with a straightforward and intuitive tool. The basics are easy to grasp, and there's plenty of room to build onto it if you're interested in customising further.
