The first Anthropology Day & Night to be held in Cork in February 2025.
The one festive day & night is designed to celebrate anthropology and bring new, mixed audiences together.
As part of this world-wide event, we, anthropologists at the Sociology and Criminology Department, at University College Cork, bring a number of workshops, talks and walks, displays and presentations to encourage more people to be curious about our work. Ultimately, we aim that people outside of Anthropology appreciate what this discipline brings to the world.
During this festive day and night, we run a Perspectives on Life After Dark: An Anthropologists Nighworkshop in Cork.
What to expect
At night, workers keep cities running. Uncover night workers’ hidden lives during this trail after dark.
Join anthropologists on an evening ramble through the streets of Cork to discover the hidden lives of people up at night, as the city prepares to go sleep, pray or party. You will be introduced to the (anthropological) study of meaningful, human activities taking place at the frontier of the night: sleep, work, consumerism, economic activities and cultural events, using sociological and anthropological research.
We’re delighted that you have chosen to spend 2-3 hours of your time with us on the Researcher’s Night walk, in Cork. It is a special occasion – The Anthropology Day. We hope you make the most of it and celebrate with us Anthropology. All welcome!
Registration required and places limited. So, sign up now! – 20 places max.
