The Outhouse Book Club returns on Wednesday, 20 November 2024 from 6-8pm in the Outhouse Library to discuss The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller.

Title: The Song of Achilles

Authors: Madeline Miller

Length: ~352 pages

Description:

Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son Achilles. Despite their differences, Achilles befriends the shamed prince, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine, their bond blossoms into something deeper - despite the displeasure of Achilles's mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But when word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, Achilles must go to war in distant Troy and fulfil his destiny. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus goes with him, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear.

How does it work?

Once you have secured your ticket, it's up to you to source a copy of this month's book to read in time for the next Book Club session. See below for information on how you can find a copy of this month's book.

Attendance is free, but space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot!

Tickets are limited to 1 per order. If you can no longer attend this event, please refund your ticket through your order confirmation email. Alternatively, you can contact Menzi at venue@outhouse.ie.

Where can I find copies of this month's book?
The book is available in most bookstores and to order online, ranging in price from €8 - €14. Also available on audiobook. Don’t forget, Outhouse will also have a copy of the book in the library. You can also look to borrow from your local library.

Book Swap:

At our October Book Club we started off our book swap, which we’ll be continuing next month. This is a great way to share books you love or that have meant something to you with other members of the bookclub.

How it works: If you’d like to join in, all you have to do is bring along a book of your choosing on the 20th of November. If you’ve already brought a book, there’s no need to bring another, you’ll still be included in the book swap. We’ll continue this for another few months to rotate the books around, and at the end you’ll have the option to get your book back, or donate it to the Outhouse Library.
