RAMBLE

The ramble will be an easy 8km walk along the scenic Barrs Line where walkers will enjoy panoramic views of Glenfarne valley, Thur Mountain and Cuilcagh Mountain in the distance.

Duration of ramble 2 - 2.5 hours approx: Distance 8 km approx: Height TBA

MEDIUM HILL WALK

The hill walk is 10km and follows an historic route over Thur Mountain, walking alongside Cullentragh Lough, crossing Middle Thur and Thur Mór and returning the same way. Walkers will enjoy great views of Sliabh an Iarainn, Cuilcagh Mountain and Lough MacNean. Walkers will be shuttled by minibus to the start of the walk at McManus Quarry.

In pre-famine times, this route witnessed much sorrow and hardship as local people carried coffins of their loved ones over the mountain to Kilmakerril Graveyard. Stories are told of people being so weak from hunger they were unable to finish the journey and had to bury their dead on the mountain. Learn more about this history in a video, ‘Kilmakerrill Graveyard’ recently produced by Leitrim County Council’s Heritage Office and part-funded by the Heritage Council.

Duration; 4 hours approx: Distance 10km: Height TBA
