The National Women’s Council is delighted to invite you to the upcoming launch of its Pre-Budget Submission 2024.
When: Tuesday 5th September 2023 from 11.30am – 1.00pm
Where: Online via Zoom (a zoom link will issue to registered attendees prior to the event)
Budget 2024 presents an extraordinary opportunity to increase investment in public services that support women, promote gender equality and improve outcomes for all women and girls living in Ireland in areas such as health, income and employment, housing, justice and women’s leadership and participation. Among the many recommendations outlined in its pre-budget submission, NWC’s priority asks for women in Budget 2024 include:
Continued investment in early years/childcare: commitment to the delivery of a fully public universal early/years/childcare model, and a further reduction in childcare costs, in the interim, by at least 25% in 2024
Zero Tolerance to Violence Against Women: fully cost and resource the implementation of the Third National Strategy on Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, and ensure the new DSGBV Agency is adequately resourced to provide appropriate funding for frontline services
Benchmarking social protection payments, including pensions: commitment to benchmarking social protection rates and pensions at a standard that provides a Minimum Essential Standard of Living for all, starting with an increase of at least €25 in all base rates in Budget 2024
The launch will include a number of speakers on the importance of Budget 2024 in addressing the key issues impacting women.
A cross party panel of political representatives will also provide responses to NWC’s call for action in Budget 2024 in addition to their respective views on the opportunities to advance gender equality in next year’s budget.
Please indicate when booking if you require ISL by Tuesday 29th August.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to the launch on Tuesday 5th September.
