About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Craft vintage toys with Fernanda Ferrari in our Language Explorers workshops! Unleash creativity using simple everyday materials, make friends from all over the world, and create a special bond with your child through the magic of art-making.

Each session is different but connected to an overall theme. Come to as many workshops as you like!

Mother Tongues’ Language Explorer workshops provide a unique creative experience for parents and their children based on storytelling, play, visual arts and music. While the workshops will be guided in English, we encourage families to embrace their home languages. This fosters meaningful connections between parents and children, creating a truly inclusive environment. Meet and connect with other like-minded families and share your language journey!

PLEASE NOTE:

Workshops are free of charge, but booking is required as there is limited capacity. When you reserve a child ticket, the accompanying adult is automatically included. If you can’t make the event, please email us at hanna@mothertongues.ie so some other family can benefit from attending the workshop.

Please remember that children must be under the supervision of an accompanying adult throughout the workshops.

Activities have been specifically designed for children aged 3 to 6. However, if you have an older child who wishes to participate, they are more than welcome (please book a place for them too). For children younger than 2.5 years, the activities might be too complex, but they are also welcome to accompany their older siblings. No need to reserve a spot for younger accompanying children.

This workshop series is funded by the Arts Council and Rua Red.

Mother Tongues is a social enterprise working to promote multilingualism and intercultural dialogue in Ireland.

Since our foundation in 2017 we have inspired many schools, libraries and community organisations to embrace multilingualism and act as catalysts for change, showing that Ireland welcomes all linguistic and cultural identities, and inspiring future generations of bilingual and multilingual children.

Our goal is to inspire everyone in society to be open to linguistic and cultural diversity and value the benefits that multilingualism brings to individuals, communities and to our society as a whole. Children can reach their full potential by developing English alongside Irish and their family language, but to do so they need parents who are motivated to keep up their mother tongue, teachers who are positive about every language and a society that welcomes linguistic diversity in all its forms.

This is why the projects we develop at Mother Tongues focus on children, by offering them opportunities to develop their language skills, parents, giving them the confidence to transmit their language to their children and teachers, enhancing their awareness of linguistically responsive practice. We work all over Ireland and collaborate with many organisations in the delivery of our programmes.
