Quay Books, Limerick, are delighted to announce that Julieta Benjamin, a young poet and artist from Paraguay, will read from her debut collection of poems in our bookstore on Friday 21st February at 7.30 pm.

For Julieta, publishing her first book of poems, entitled La amnesia busca asilo en otra parte, represented a long-cherished dream.

Influenced since she was a child by her family rooted in art, her grandmother through music and her grandfather through painting, Julieta tended in the same direction. She is currently widely known in Paraguay as an actress, teacher and producer.

Her poems deal with the everyday and her gaze is never limited to contemplating, but to thinking about reality in all its aspects, seeking to plant verses on the borders between the happy and the bitter.

Although she comes from a background of producing and acting, her encounters with letters showed her a way where she could be just herself. "In literature I found that refuge, that encounter with my self."

Julieta was born in Asunción, Paraguay where she attended Universidad Americana de Paraguay. She a degree in degree in Audiovisual Communication.
