People with intellectual disabilities run the National Platform of Self Advocates. With the support of Rethink Ireland and the Department of Children Equality Disabiity Integration and Youth, the National Platform of Self-advocates is developing a network of self-advocates with intellectual disabilities throughout Ireland. We are running meetings and online training events to build leadership and advocacy skills. We want to empower people like us to speak up and take their rightful place in their communities and organisations.

This event is open to people with intellectual disabilities.

Registration at 10:30 am. Event finishes at 1pm followed by a light lunch.

What is this event about?

This is part of a series of networking events for people with intellectual disabilities across Ireland.

These events aim to share how the National Platform has had its voice heard at a national level and how to make changes in communities to improve life for everybody.

We welcome representatives from local advocacy groups and individuals.

Advocacy and leadership are powerful skills that help you speak up for your rights.
Learning these skills helps you to get involved in creating positive change and making a difference in your community.

Our online courses are designed to support people with intellectual disabilities to build confidence and knowledge to become strong advocates and leaders.

You will be able to register to do a course 'Introduction to Advocacy'. We also have courses on Leadership and Human Rights.

Organised by

The National Platform of Self Advocates is a national organisation run by people with intellectual disabilities. The organisation was set up to make sure that the voices of people with intellectual disabilities are heard. The organisation is founded on the right of people with intellectual disabilities to be included as equal citizens with rights as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Platform aims to be the nationally recognised spokes organisation on policy and issues affecting the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. We aim to be involved through representation by our members in local and national policy making groups.
