About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 15 minutes

In a sea of pianists, Greg Lloyd has cultivated his signature sound by creating forward-thinking original improvised music in a trio and quartet format that is influenced by old school funk, world, classical, blues/jazz, rock and North African “chaabi” music.

This is original, unorthodox music combining genres of composition and improvisation in a piano trio format. A gig not to be missed.

Originally from Sydney, Greg Lloyd completed a Masters of Performance with 1st class honours from MTU - Cork School of Music in 2019 and holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the Australian National University.

Greg is an accomplished sought after pianist, composer, arranger, producer and educator based in Dublin. His musical accomplishments to date include releasing the debut album ‘Long Way Home’  with his band GLG (Greg Lloyd Group) in 2012 to rave reviews here and abroad. The album is distributed in Japan by Disk Union, one tune was picked by renowned Japanese jazz critic Yasukuni Terashima on the compilation album ‘Jazz Bar 2013’.

Greg co-musically directed, composed and arranged the popular “chaabi” music and musicians in Algiers for the CD and documentary film 'El Gusto', an Algerian 'Buena Vista Social Club' where he performed with the El Gusto Orchestra at the Barbican (UK) 2007 and the Berlin Jazz Festival 2007. Greg has also worked with the producers of Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti and Rachid Taha in France for the film's soundtrack released on Renmark Music. Greg also rehearsed the El Gusto Orchestra in preparation for the recording 'Abel Hadi Halo & the El Gusto Orchestra of Algiers' album which he worked  with Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz) which is released on the Honest Jon’s label.

After a forced break due to covid, Greg is back and ready as ever with new material which will be dripped out over the coming months with an album launch later in the year.

The new music is a cocktail which resonates Esbjorn Svensson Trio, Pat Metheny, Avishai Cohen, Tord Gustavsen, Phillip Glass, Oscar Peterson and North African music.

Greg will be joined on stage with Dave Redmond (bass) and Kevin Brady (drums).
