Join us for a short 30 minute presentation, followed by questions, reporting on our internal hack day experimenting with using artificial intelligence techniques, in particular large language models, to query and summarise the Northern Ireland census results hosted in Cantabular. We’ll demonstrate some of the prototypes we created in just one or two days of work, discuss some of the challenges we encountered and what we learned that is more generally applicable to the publication of official statistics.We'll cover<ul><li>An introduction to Cantabular: what it is and how it works</li><li>A brief demo of how NISRA use Cantabular to publish the Northern Ireland census results</li><li>Demos and lessons learned from our internal hack day</li><li>Q&A</li></ul>BackgroundCantabular enables real-time creation of statistical outputs from microdata, with automated disclosure checks, through a simple, powerful user interface.In March 2023, the Office for National Statistics, UK released their “Create a custom dataset” product for census 2021, powered by Cantabular, with NISRA following suit for the Northern Ireland 2021 census a few months later.As Jen Woolford, Director of Population Statistics at ONS, said, this new product puts the “power in the hands of users” to create their own breakdowns of census data and “has allowed ONS to release billions of anonymised census statistics far more quickly than ever before.”To join the webinar: once you have registered then click "Access link" which will show in the "Location" section above.
