Join artist and educator Madeleine Hellier as she presents an illustrated talk and demonstration on traditional stained glass techniques.
Focusing on how stained glass has been made since the middle ages and using those of within Highlanes Gallery as illustrative references for each stage, Madeleine will also reflect on the original leaded variety up to the copper-foil technique developed in the late 19th century by Louis Comfort Tiffany.
Attendees will have the chance to work directly with Madeleine, as she hosts a demonstration of techniques using tools of the craft such as; cutting, grinding, applying copper foil, soldering, and applying finishes.
She will also be able to facilitate questions and comments with you throughout the workshop in an informal, relaxed, environment.
About:
Madeleine Hellieri a glass artist and educator who has been working in glass for more than 20 years across traditional staining and leading, copper foiling (Tiffany technique), fusing and restoration. Madeleine has a small studio in her home in Marino, Dublin and works mostly to commission.
She has participated in numerous exhibitions including the Wexford Arts Centre, Talbot Studios & Gallery and Sculpture in Context (Dublin), MAC Gallery (Belfast), City Assembly House (Dublin). She is an invited artist participating in the educational outreach programme of the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin.
In 2024 Madeleine was a member of a delegation of Irish Crafters invited to travel to China to exhibit at the 18th Hangzhou Culture and Creative Industry Expo where her work was acquired by the Department of Foreign Affairs for display in the Ireland’s Consulate in Shanghai.
