PUSH (2019): Screening and Panel discussion
Date: Saturday 23 November 2024
Time: 7pm
Location: Studio 468, South Circular Road, Rialto, Dublin 8
The School of Thought Art Collective (Augustine O'Donoghue and Conor McCabe) will be presenting the first of a series of counter-culture nights in Dublin on Saturday 23rd November. The events will focus on counter narratives and analysis around culture, history, and politics. These include a counter-historical walk through Dublin 8 and a screening of Push, an award-winning documentary by director Fredrik Gertten, on the financialisation of housing. This will be followed by a post-screening discussion.
PUSH (2019) follows Leilani Farha, then UN Special Rapporteur on the right to housing, as she investigates why cities around the world are becoming so unaffordable. Housing is a fundamental human right, a precondition to a safe and healthy life. But in cities all around the world, having a place to live is becoming more and more difficult. Who are the players and what are the factors that make housing one of today’s most pressing world issues?
The post-screening panel will include Abaigeal Meek of Liberties SOS, Aisling Hedderman of CATU (Community Action Tenants Union), and Lois Kapila, editor of Dublin Inquirer.
