About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Originally from Co. Monaghan, Maggie Nic an tSaoi, performing as ‘Nicantsaoi’, began her journey into song-writing and performing original music during the late 1990s, playing in venues such as the International bar and Temple Bar Music Center in Dublin. More recently, she has performed at events like the Clonmel Apple Festival, Féile na nÚLL, and Electric Picnic's Global Green stage, establishing her as a talented and diverse artist in the music scene, playing support also to Iarla O’Lionaird in the Cloughjordan Community Amphitheatre in summer 2024.

Nicantsaoi has independently crafted and released several singles, including notable tracks such as 'Georgia's Black Iris' as song inspired by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe and the local Cloughjordan inspired and much revered 'The Apple Walk’ song. More recently she has shared recordings of songs called 'East Wall' and 'Swallow in the Hollow,' collaborating with Cloughjordan's talented musicians such as Wendy Bailey on double bass, Nicholas Ward on guitar, Ruairí McBride on mandolin, and Caoimhín Woods on bones. This collaboration results in a delightful fusion of poetic lyrics and original eclectic soundscapes.

Her artistic talents have been recognised and she was commissioned to write a song in response to the Thomas MacDonagh Museum - the result, is a dedication to the female figures in MacDonagh’s life, called; 'Máthair le Misneach'. Among her repertoire of original compositions, you’ll also hear unique interpretations of ballads such as 'John John' by MacDonagh, and 'Hellelil and Hildebrand' a medieval ballad by unknown author and translated by Whitney Stokes.

“the evening promises to be an enchanting, inspiring, and delightful experience”

About the Organiser;

Silverwood Events is a community arts and education business, based in Kilrush.

Find out more on our Facebook page.

They are hosting this event on a voluntary basis. This means that 100% of your ticket fees are used to cover expenses and to pay the performers.

About Ticket Prices;

To make sure that this event is as accessible as possible, we have set up a three tier pricing system.

The first tier is the 'Standard Supporter' price. We've made that as reasonable as possible, while covering all of our expenses.

The second tier is the 'Skint Supporter' price. This is a reduced rate for people who really want to come, but cannot afford the full price. Please only use this if you genuinely need to, as availability is limited.

The third tier is the 'Super Supporter' price. This is for people who feel that they can afford a little more, and who would like to fund the cheaper tickets for those that need them. Super Supporters can pay however much they like, above the standard rate. Any excess funds raised from these tickets will be used to fund future events. If you choose to help in this way, THANK YOU!
