Multi-instrumentalist Matteo Cullen presents a thrilling repertoire of jazz and blues standards, including works by luminaries Thelonius Monk, Ray Charles, Wayne Shorter and Ry Cooder. Matteo augments these virtuosic interpretations with stirring performances of original songs on piano and guitar, drawing on lifelong exploration of roots music, and informed by ongoing travels through the Caribbean, southern US, Middle East and beyond
Accompanying Matteo is contemporary folk guitarist and songwriter Donal O’ Connor. Donal’s deeply personal songs are rooted in his lived experiences in the shadows of the Curlew Mountains of north Roscommon. Christy Moore describes Donal’s music as ‘a pure joy’, while the Irish Times affirms that his songwriting ‘captures beautifully the foibles of Irish life’. Having performed to acclaim across the UK folk club scene, in the US, Spain, New Zealand and Germany, Donal’s exquisite guitar work and spellbinding lyric stories now feature for the first time in Dublin.
