Please note: Some rhythmic experience (even if it is early in life) is necessary. The classes are not suitable for absolute beginners.

You are curious about Balkan folk dances and culture, or you would just like to learn something new while keeping active, or surprise someone with an unusual gift? Balkan folk dances are chain dances with repetitive steps - no partner is required. This is not Bregovich music! :)

What to expect in the class (duration 1h, incl. 5 min break) :

  • Basic exercises and music for warm up.
  • Break down and practise some basic steps / combinations.
  • Learn a few dances - some are with very easy combinations, others might be a bit more complicated. You can participate as you wish.

    The evening will continue with social dance part (duration 30 min).:
  • We can practise some of the dances without detailed explanations.
  • You will have the opportunity to listen to / dance on live music (bagpipe and two-sided drum).
  • Socialise or learn more advanced dances.
  • Other related music/social activities.

What to wear:

Please bring a clean pair of soft shoes that you will use only in the studio (trainers are ok, or others that are not with hard sole. They don't have to be special dance shoes). I reserve the right to refuse participation if you don't have it. Dancing barefoot or with socks is not suitable.

The studio is in Santry, just beside Omni shopping centre, near bus stops and with free parking.

Are these classes in Balkan folk dances suitable for absolute beginners?

I will teach each new dance in details and we will practise it over the time. However, you will join other people who have already learnt some patterns. You can choose what to learn as there are a number of dances. Some rhythmic experience is necessary.

What shoes do I need in order to practise Balkan folk dances?
