We will discuss how to plan your book going into detail about overall structure and plotting your book. We will also discuss how to keep the pace up to keep your readers turning the page, as well as ...

3:20 PM - 3:30 PM

A hook for your book


We will discuss how to write a catchy first sentence to 'hook' readers. The children will spend time writing their own hook for their book.

3:30 PM - 3:45 PM

The first page


The first page of your book is extremely important. In this session, the children will write the first page of their book.

About this event

This event is for 7-13 year olds who love writing stories, with children's author Marian Brennan. We will go through basic story structure and what makes a great story. We will go through plotting and planning. We will also work on the 'hook' for your book and the all important first page! This will is an active workshop encouraging children to write in the session.

Do I need to stay with my child for the session?

No.

Does my child need to bring writing materials?

No. All materials will be provided, however, if your child would like to bring their own writing book or pens/pencils, they are welcome to bring these.

Can my child bring a story they have already written?

Yes. If they would like to bring a story they have already written and use this as the basis for the exercises, this is fine.

Does my child need to have already written something?

No.

Will there be any drawing or illustration?

No. This workshop will be focussed on how to write the story rather than on illustration.
