Irish Books for Screen 2024 - Members Only Event

As the demand for motion picture and television content increases, studios and film producers are turning more to book publishers and authors for content. This year, the Irish Books for Screen 2023 event will take place in person during Trade Day. The event is run in conjunction with the Directors from the “Screen Directors’ Guild of Ireland” on Friday 8th November from 4.30pm - 5.30pm. With this, publishers have a great opportunity to pitch key titles to a broad range of people from the film world.

As well as directors, we are inviting producers and screenwriters: together, these are the key people who make things happen, from high-budget feature films, TV one-offs and series for RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 to longer-form series for the likes of Netflix. They are interested both in fiction and non-fiction (for documentaries), for adults and children: they are Irish storytellers who want our stories! While many arts industries are slowing down at the moment, the film industry is still seeking material for future projects, so this is an opportunity not to be missed!

Each participating publisher will be invited to pitch two to three titles each in 5-minute slots with PowerPoint slides that will be provided as a template. The full collection of slides will travel beyond the room to Irish film industry people worldwide: it's a great opportunity to extend the reach of your books.

The first part of the event will see the SDGI members being introduced, followed by pitches by Publishing Ireland members.

Please come along: this is a real opportunity to meet and get to know the people who put things on screens big and small, in Ireland and abroad.

Publishing Ireland was founded in 1970 as CLÉ – Irish Book Publishers’ Association  in response to the need felt by publishers to share expertise and resources in order to benefit from opportunities and solve problems which were of common concern to all.

Membership of Publishing Ireland has grown significantly and comprises most of the major publishing houses in Ireland with a mixture of trade, general and academic publishers as members.

Publishing Ireland is a cross-border organisation, with a Board drawn from the member companies’ staff and various committees and working groups. Publishing Ireland is run on the principles of inclusion and accountability, responding to and anticipating members’ needs.
