About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

In 2024, we mark the 100th anniversary of the publication of La vorágine by José Eustasio Rivera, one of the most important novels in Colombian and Latin American literature. Novels like this one, aimed to forge a distinct national literary identity, in this case for Colombia, focusing on remote regions while highlighting the impact of the rubber trade on communities and nature.

We are pleased to announce we will be joined by journalist and science communicator Angela Posada-Swafford to participate in a conversation about environmental the crisis in the Amazon at present, the effects of rubber trade, the approach to this issues in COP16 which took place in Cali (Colombia) in the month of October, among other topics.

The conversation, which will be moderated by Margarita Barrero in the framework of the Macondo & Ulysses bookclub, will serve as opening event to the exhibition 100 Years of La Voragine from the National Library of Colombia. The exhibition will be first presented in Ireland from 3rd to 20th December at the Irish Architectural Archive (Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm).
